Truth Seer/Healer

Recently, I got an email asking to read these two books by author Kay Moody because her third book is coming out in July and a worker for Marten Press reached out to me if I would be interested in reading the books to review. I was very flattered so agreed to read it. I am working like I have stated before, on expanding my reading and this isn't usually my type of book as people who know me know. Here is the summary from Goodreads:

A world of lies. A cell of terrorists. When her sister is taken hostage, only the power to see the truth can set both of them free.

Egypt, 2121. Imara Kalu knows how she wants her future to go: Become a police interrogator in Kenya and then graduate as a truth seer in her last semester of the summer training program. But her plans fall apart when a group of terrorists take over the school and carry out a desperate kidnapping. Devastated that her sister is among the victims, Imara leads a rescue team and descends into the dangerous catacombs where the hostages are rumored to be hidden.

Although suspicious of others because of the truth she sees, Imara knows the rescue team will need her help as a truth seer to bypass the lethal illusions laid by the abductors. But as the terrorist traps escalate, Imara realizes how much truth she’s been ignoring and that holding back could get her sister killed. Throughout the journey, Imara confronts her past and amplifies her abilities as a truth seer only to discover that her sister’s kidnapping is just one piece of a much darker secret.

Truth Seer is an enthralling YA sci-fi fantasy novel. If you like tenacious heroes, incredible mind powers, and futuristic tech, then you’ll love Kay L Moody’s fascinating world.

I wanted the challenge and I was not disappointed in the least. First of all I want to be clear on something, since I was a young kid, I was convinced that I am a reincarnation of Cleopatra. So of course with the book being set in Egypt, I was intrigued. I was in a Colleen Hoover reading slump and this was the perfect book to kick my butt back into gear. It was very original and entertaining to read. I found myself waiting for moments to read so I could sneak in pages here and there in between mommy duties and my mind was filled with these characters and world I started to fall in love with.

Kay has a beautiful writing style and made Imara a strong female character that had flaws and still left me cheering for. Abe was a good male lead and good for Imara. I loved the story line and the world building and all of the action.

I am so passionate about these books. I recommend them to everyone.

In book two we start off right where book one left off.

Cairo 2121. The city is failing. To save it, all they need is a list. A list that has the names needed to take down the slave cartel that targets orphans. A list that’s impossible to find. In an unfamiliar city, Imara attempts to secure the list, but her efforts are thwarted again and again by a man who grips Cairo with terror and control. She joins a security team, hoping to save Cairo and her new boyfriend’s business all at the same time. With the team’s numbers dwindling more each day, they prepare for an upcoming event to attract new recruits to help them hunt down the list and stop the terror for good. But then, their efforts get hijacked by an old threat and their problems multiply. Now, Imara faces a man who enslaves orphans and a woman who craves revenge. As the fight progresses, she’s forced to make an impossible choice: Fix the mistakes of her past… or save the city? Healer is the 2nd book in the Truth Seer Trilogy

I sunk deeper with my emotions for this book. This book really hooked me on Kay's writing. I cried a couple of times, I felt breathless, I just couldn't believe what was happening. The characters are so much more now and the world building continues and the story is just a story I love.

I have so much I want to mention with out spoilers but UGH Abe, I swear Abe would give me a heart attack in this book and THEN THAT CLIFF HANGER AT THE END! I MEAN REALLY KAY!

Ok taking a deep breath here. I like Abe, don't get me wrong, I do but he was so frustrating at times in this book and when we find out why I'm like SERIOUSLY dude? I wanted to slap him several times and hug him other times through out the book. Imara I felt bad for but some choices she made regarding her sister made me want to vent.

With that said, I loved this book possibly more than book one. I think both are fantastic reads and I am eager for book 3 to come out. If you are looking for books that are original, beautifully written with lovable characters, this is a trilogy for you.
